Teens / Pre-University

Ages 13 - 17

CHAVÓN offers a rich palette of studio-based courses for teen-aged students who want to develop their creative skills at a professional, world-class school of art and design. Whether art is your passion or your hobby, working with skilled professional teacher/practitioners who bring real-world assignments to the classroom is an exhilarating learning experience through which you can explore new concepts and techniques while fine-tuning your existing skills.

All art and design courses take into account the basic principles of visual expression: line, color theory, two- and three-dimensional design and explore the techniques, materials and equipment, both analog and digital, that are appropriate to their specific disciplines.

Fine arts classes (drawing, painting, illustration) tend to be intense studio-based experiences in which you work under the watchful eyes of seasoned instructors; learning to maximize the potential of a variety of media and techniques.

Design classes are largely project based, and explore conceptual development as well as practical applications, from basic principles to advanced projects. Classes include the review of relevant materials and methods and, where appropriate, an introduction to specialized equipment and software.

Portfolio Development

Special classes, including weekend and summer workshops, are offered for the development of a portfolio for college or art-school admission, job interviews or personal purposes. Because CHAVÓN is an affiliate of Parsons School of Design, these classes aim for portfolios that meet international standards of quality, and faculty or advisors are able to counsel students on the admissions criteria and portfolio requirements of many schools in the US and Europe.
