The Inter-American Development Bank (BID), an international financial organization created to promote regional commercial integration in Latin America and the Caribbean, invited CHAVÓN to participate in the 21st Foromic conference, the leading regional event dealing with topics related to financial inclusion and entrepreneurial development. Stephen D. Kaplan, Rector of the School, represented CHAVÓN on the panel “Painting the Future Orange,” which dealt with the importance of the creative fields to industry. 

The work of Gaby D’Alessandro, a graduate from the Fine Arts major, was recently featured on Telemundo News. Her illustrations have been published on the pages of magazines and newspapers, such as New York Times and The Washington Post.  Upon graduating from CHAVÓN in 2008, D’Alessandro received a scholarship for Parsons School of Design, where she completed a BFA in Illustration. 

With the support from the Dominican diaspora in the United States, Norkelly Acosta, graduate of the Fine Arts program in 2000, exhibited her work before the Dominican Commission of Culture in the United States, a division under the Ministry of Culture of the Dominican Republic. 

Víctor Rivera, Communication Design 1986, participated in the “Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative,” organized by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the United States Department of State.

Mónica Ferreras, Fine Arts 1985, published her book You Never Know, in which she discusses the last eight years of her career as a visual artist.

Dominican and graduate Mayle Vásquez receives a major review in British Vogue magazine in the September issue. The magazine praises the fusion of modernity and sophistication of her work under the brand that bears her name. According to Vogue “innovative clean cuts and shapes are key components in the ‘effortless’ look that defines Mayle Vásquez.”

The New York Times recently published an article featuring, Hochi Asiatico a graduate of Fine Arts, class of 1985, under the title “Broadway ‘s Dirty Secret: How an Artisan Turns From Riches to Rags Costumes.” The New York Tomes defines Hochi as one of a small group of artists who can make costumes look “beautifully bad”, and defining him a “costume painter.” 

The Luis Dominguez fashion house was commissioned to dress the First Lady of the Dominican Republic, Candida Montilla de Medina, for the presidential inaguaration gala, celebrated upon the election of her husband, Danilo Medina Sanchez, at the National Palace of the Dominican Republic.

The Altos de Chavón Gallery recently hosted “Dos en Uno” –  a tribute to twelve renowned Dominicans by photographer Herminio Alberti León and sculptor Mark Lineweaver – with the purpose of contributing resources to the Scholarship Fund of the Altos de Chavón Cultural Center Foundation. 

Some of the honorees featured are: Mrs. Melba Segura de Grullón, Mr. Gottfried Bruhn, Mr. Pepín Corripio, Mr. Julio Brache Arzeno, Mrs. Margarita Copello de Rodríguez, Mr. Freddy Ginebra, among others. 

Ricardo Salamanca is considered one of the world’s leading experts in the art of photomontage, illustration and photography, with awards from the most important festivals of the world, such as the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, Épica, Clio, Asociación Chilena de Publicidad (ACHAP) and Ojo de Iberoamérica. He has worked for brands, such as Citröen, Playstation, Colgate, Babybel, among others.

During the month of February, he visited CHAVÓN to teach the students of the Photography major a special workshop, and to deliver a master class on “Construction and Design of Images” for the general public. 

The prominent designer visited the Dominican Republic for the first time and gave the Visual Communication students at CHAVÓN a two-day workshop, as well as a open talk to graduates and members of the industry, entitled: ‘”It’s never love at first sight.”

Haviv is a partner and designer at Chermayeff & Geismar & Haviv, one of the most distinguished design studios in the city of New York. Iván Chermayeff, who co-founded the agency alongside Tom Geismar, visited the School on several occasions as a guest lecturer. Haviv, who joined the firm years later, has designed more than sixty identity programs, including the logos of The Library of Congress, Harvard University Press, US Open Tennis Championships, Conservation International, Armani Exchange, among others.

CHAVÓN, Harvard Business Publishing, and Georgetown University are creating a strategic alliance with Barna Management School to support its new Bachelor in Business Administration degree. Starting September 2019, CHAVÓN’s La Romana campus will be the site of a residential program focusing on Creativity and Design Thinking.

La Romana. – La Galería Principal de Altos de Chavón anuncia la apertura, el jueves 7 de septiembre, de la exposición ‘‘Savages’’, de los artistas dominicanos Joao Rodríguez y George Heinsen.

Joao Rodríguez, egresado de Chavón La Escuela de Diseño en Bellas Artes e Ilustración y posteriormente realizo una maestría en Dirección y Realización de Series de Ficción en Antonio de Nebrija, España. Ha sido ganador de numerosos premios, obtuvo el primer lugar en el concurso de Afiches para el Desfile Nacional del Carnaval en 2013 y fue ganador en el 2016 del concurso de diseño de campaña Bosch ‘’ Construye tu Futuro’’ en España.

George Heinsen, egresado de Chavón La Escuela de Diseño en Bellas Artes e Ilustración y en 2017 realizó una maestría en Dirección Artística Cinematográfica en La Escuela Superior de Cine en Barcelona, España. Ha participado en diferentes Bienales en el República Dominicana. Colaboró con el desarrollo del ‘’Parque Lineal Arroyo Gurabo’’ junto al equipo urbanístico de Curitiba, Brasil.

‘’La naturaleza es un familiar desconocido, los arboles son mapas y los animales recuerdos. La búsqueda externa pregunta por los lazos rotos y la interna sobre nuestra dependencia. SAVAGES es el resultado de un proceso exploratorio que no busca nada en concreto, es una manifestación de nuestras dudas’’, expresaron los artistas.
