Founded in affiliation with Parsons School of Design and located in the Dominican Republic, CHAVÓN is a global center of art and design education, serving students throughout Latin America, the Caribbean and the international art, fashion, film and design community.
With a strong track record of job placement and a worldwide network of alumni, CHAVÓN graduates are leaders in their industries, working for international brands across the globe. They have also made significant impact on the critical “orange economy” in Latin America and the Caribbean, through successful careers in local companies and agencies and as independent artists, filmmakers and entrepreneurs.
CHAVÓN offers college level programs— a 2-year professional certificate–equivalent to an American Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree. In addition it makes available a 4-year BFA degree in a 2+2 collaboration with Parsons School of Design and offers part-time classes for professionals and art enthusiasts of all ages.
Headed by a Parsons-trained dean, classes are taught in Spanish by an international faculty of noted scholars, artists and designers from the U.S., Latin America, Europe and the Caribbean. These distinguished professionals bring a sophisticated global perspective to the classroom, while an international roster of visiting lecturers and artists-in-residence further enhances CHAVÓN’s real-world perspective and provides an invaluable networking opportunity.
CHAVÓN’s curriculum was designed by Parsons School of Design (USA), and has been continually monitored and updated by its faculty to reflect the impact of changing technology and to meet the demands of globalism in the 21st century. Today CHAVÓN offers majors in Fine Arts, Communications Design, Illustration, Animation, Fashion Design, Fashion Marketing, Film, and Interior Design.
In addition, CHAVÓN offers a broad selection of workshops and courses for adults throughout the year under the Continuing Education division, Diplomados, as well as programs for Kids and Teenagers from the ages of 3 to 17. CHAVÓN also provides tailor-made solutions for organizations through personalized programs.
With a 35-year commitment to excellence and innovation, students follow a demanding professional curriculum while receiving highly individualized attention in small classes in an environment of close collaboration with their faculty.
CHAVÓN offers academic programs (full and part time) and a vibrant student experience at two unique locations—the intimate Altos De Chavón Campus, located within the Casa De Campo resort in La Romana, and the urban Santo Domingo Campus in the nation’s capital. Known as “Chavoneros/Chavoneras” full-time students form fast friendships and generally maintain close contact after graduation, forming a global network of professional alumni that frequently provides career opportunities for recent graduates.
CHAVÓN brings together the diverse cultures, styles and techniques of the continent and the Caribbean, while maintaining a global perspective and supporting the attainment of internationally recognized skills. The School nurtures talent and creativity in the context of real-world expectations and knowledge of international markets and job opportunities that meet the needs of the global creative industry and the growing Orange Economy — today and into the future.
