Coming from the same CHAV\u00d3N, as a 2003 Fine Arts and Illustration graduate, and from a Parsons School of Design specialization, in 2005, this multifaceted artist joins the ranks of our faculty as coordinator of the Illustration technical major. Facing this new professional\u00a0challenge, Jonathan\u2014supported by a distinguished team of professionals and colleagues- is going for it all. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The talent of this new generation of illustrators is their motor; guiding them so they may have their own voice and defend their critical thought, their ignition. \u201cThe idea is to imbue students with information and techniques without changing their essence, so that upon graduation they will have long and satisfying careers where they continue to explore and expand their skills,\u201d says Jonathan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For this creative, \u201cThe ability to tell a story with something as primitive as lines on paper\u00a0is a profound connection with humanity\u00bb. That\u2019s why he\u2019s\u00a0 a faithful believer that drawing from\u00a0direct observation is the keystone of the Illustration major\u2019s academic plan, along with classic\u00a0techniques in combination with contemporary mediums. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jonathan dreams that visual narrative, the development of concepts, and the use of different techniques will become something natural for the CHAV\u00d3N illustrator over the course of the major\u2019s two years\u2014and forever!.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He comes with an impressive professional trajectory.\u00a0His works have been exhibited with great\u00a0success in the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, New York (Studio Museum in Harlem\u00a0and\u00a0Parsons Gallery), and Connecticut (Mystic Seaport).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But it doesn\u2019t stop there: Jonathan has also played a fundamental role in the creation of five original,\u00a0copyrighted\u00a0properties \u201cSuckers,\u201d \u201cAfter Ascension,\u201d \u201cGulls,\u201d and \u201cJaymse\u201d (he was\u00a0 Ascensi\u00f3n\u00bb, \u00abGulls y \u00abJaymse\u00bb (he was involved in the development of the last three). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He has also created many storyboards and animations. He participated in the series \u00abThe I-Land I\u00bb, on Netflix, as well as in the Dominican films \u00abThe Barbershop\u00bb, \u00abLoki 7\u00bb and \u00abThe Fabulous V\u00bb, to name a few. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He has worked on different educational projects such as the creation of children\u2019s books, and has participated in the design and illustration of the cover of the Penguin Young Readers Group series of 2005\u20132006.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Motivated by this barrage of successes, Jonathan launched Piece of Schmidt, his own studio, in\u00a02013. Magic was produced there, through their services \u2014the conception, development, and\u00a0creation of characters storyboards, and animation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Now, since his recently assumed position of academic coordinator, this artist plans to work with each person so that they eliminate any kind of negativity toward their work and find a way to translate their thoughts with clarity. In other words, this is what Jonathan has as his guiding principle \u201cTo equip students with the mentality to be better than yesterday.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
